ICAR–KVK, Nimbudera organized Awareness Campaign on Balanced Use of Fertilizers

An Awareness Campaign on the “Balanced Use of Fertilizers” was successfully organized by ICAR–KVK, Nimbudera in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and UTATMA, Mayabunder at Pareshnagar village under Mayabunder block. The programme aimed to enhance farmers’ knowledge on the balanced and efficient use of fertilizers, soil health awareness, and the judicious application of agricultural inputs for sustainable crop production.

The campaign featured expert lectures and interactive sessions conducted by key resource persons including Dr. Rakesh Dawar, Mr. Yatharth Sharma, and BTM Seema (Mayabunder). Detailed information on the Soil Health Card was also provided, explaining how it helps farmers understand the status of essential nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, organic carbon, pH, and micronutrients. Farmers were guided on how to interpret the card using simple indicators (low, medium, high), enabling them to apply the right type and quantity of fertilizers and manure for specific crops. They also stressed the role of biofertilizers such as Azotobacter and Rhizobium, along with green manuring crops like sunhemp and dhaincha, in enhancing soil health and minimizing dependence on chemical fertilizers.

Farmers were sensitized on the harmful effects of imbalanced fertilizer use, which can lead to soil degradation, nutrient deficiency, and reduced productivity. Interactive sessions allowed farmers to discuss field problems and receive practical, location-specific solutions from experts. The programme saw enthusiastic participation, with farmers expressing willingness to adopt scientific nutrient management practices. The campaign was conducted under the overall guidance of Dr. Jai Sunder, Director (Act.), ICAR–CIARI, Sri Vijayapuram. A total of around 30 farmers and farmwomen actively participated, gaining knowledge for improving productivity and sustainability in their farming systems.
