ICAR-CIARI organized training programme on “Modern pig farming practices” in North-Eastern state and West Bengal through NEH fund and Scheduled caste component of AICRP on Pig


A venture was undertaken by ICAR-CIARI, Sri Vijayapuram to organize two training programmes at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kharua, Assam and Kalyani campus of Eastern Regional Station of Indian Veterinary Research Institute on 21st and 22nd March,2025, respectively. In Assam, the programme was conducted in collaboration with KVK, Kharua. A total of 151 Bodo (Tibeto-Burman speaking ethnolinguistic group) pig farmers (mostly women) attended this programme. After this training programme, 35 tons of balanced pig feed was distributed to promote scientific pig farming under NEH component of AICRP on Pig. The programme was coordinated Dr. A.K. De, Sr. Scientist & PI, AICRP-Pig Improvement, Dr. Debasis Bhattacharya, Pr. Scientist, ICAR-CIARI in the presence of Dr. Debjit Deka, SMS (Animal Science) at KVK, Kharua, Assam. On subsequent day, another programme was organized involving 26 scheduled caste farmers in collaboration with ICAR-IVRI, Eastern Regional Station, Kalyani campus, Nadia, West Bengal. After this training programme, 12.4 ton of balanced pig feed and digital electronic weighing balance was distributed among schedule caste farmers for economic improvement through scientific pig farming. In both the training programmes, farmers were made aware about mitigation of iron deficiency anemia (IDA) through 2-7-10-15 module (an ICAR certified technology developed by scientists of ICAR-CIARI, importance of castration for quick return to the farmers, importance of pig feed for better economic benefit, gestation management through calcium therapy, management of common viral, bacterial and parasitic diseases.
