ICAR–KVK Nimbudera Organized Awareness Programme on Sustainable Farming Practices under Khet Bachao Abhiyan for Progressive Farmers of North and Middle Andaman


ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nimbudera, organized an awareness programme on sustainable farming practices under “Khet Bachao Abhiyan 2026” at the KVK campus, Nimbudera, and Karmatang village in collaboration with UTATMA, Department of Agriculture, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, with the participation of progressive farmers from North and Middle Andaman district. The programme was conducted with the objective of sensitizing farmers about sustainable agricultural practices, balanced use of fertilizers, the importance of Soil Health Cards, integrated nutrient management, improved farm management techniques, and the adoption of scientific agricultural technologies for enhancing productivity, maintaining soil health, and improving farm profitability.


The programme was graced by the presence of Deputy Director of Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India; Director of Agriculture, Andaman & Nicobar Administration; Joint Director of Agriculture, North and Middle Andaman District; and KVK Expert from ICAR–KVK, North and Middle Andaman.


During the interaction session, the dignitaries and agricultural experts held detailed discussions with progressive farmers on various aspects of agriculture, including field-level challenges, efficient input management, adoption of improved agricultural technologies, organic and natural farming practices, and strategies for enhancing farm income. The experts provided technical guidance on crop production, integrated nutrient management through both organic and inorganic sources, climate-resilient agricultural practices, and sustainable farming approaches for improving productivity and long-term soil health.


The participating farmers actively shared their experiences, challenges, and suggestions related to agricultural activities in the islands. The programme provided a valuable platform for farmer–expert interaction and strengthened coordination among farmers, agricultural departments, and KVK experts for promoting sustainable and technology-driven agriculture.


The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Y. Ramakrishna, Principal Scientist & Head (i/c), ICAR–KVK Nimbudera, and Dr. Jai Sunder, Director (Act.), ICAR–CIARI, Sri Vijayapuram. A total of 83 progressive farmers from North and Middle Andaman district participated in the programme and benefited from the technical guidance and expert interactions.
