As part of the nationwide Khet Bachao Abhiyan campaign being observed from 1–30 June 2026, an awareness programme under the Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav (MGMG) initiative on the balanced use of fertilizers and organic manures was organized at Rammedu Village House, Minicoy, on 11 June 2026.
The programme aimed to create awareness among farmers and Self Help Group (SHG) members about sustainable nutrient management practices for improving soil health, enhancing crop productivity, and promoting environmentally sustainable agriculture. A total of 15 participants (12 female & 3 male), including members of the Fonialanasi Self Help Group, farmers, and village representatives, attended the programme. Traditional village leaders, including Moopen Ali of Rammedu Village, and Mr. Arif M. I , Senior Technician ICAR-CIARI, RS, Minicoy were also present and encouraged farmers to adopt sustainable farming practices.
Dr. Saneera E.K., Scientist-in-Charge (SIC), delivered the technical session on balanced nutrient management for sustainable crop production. She emphasized the importance of integrating organic nutrient sources to maintain soil fertility, improve soil organic matter content, and sustain long-term agricultural productivity. The session covered various organic inputs such as Farm Yard Manure (FYM), compost, oil cakes, biofertilizers, and green manures, highlighting their role in enhancing soil health and supporting sustainable farming systems. An interactive discussion was held following the lecture, during which farmers shared field-level concerns, including poor flowering and reduced fruit development in sapota. Practical recommendations were provided to address these issues and improve crop performance. The programme concluded with active participation from farmers and village representatives, reaffirming the importance of balanced nutrient management and organic farming practices in achieving sustainable agricultural development.
